Orcan Energy, the leading CleanTech Company, which develops solutions for the use of industrial waste heat, and Adolf Gottfried Tonwerke GmbH were awarded with a prestigious industry prize for their innovative waste heat utilization project in the energy-intensive extraction of raw materials for the ceramic industry. The project received the Energy Efficiency Award in the "Energiewende 2.0" category, which the German Energy Agency (Dena) presented yesterday evening at its Energiewende-Kongress in Berlin.

The leading CleanTech company Orcan Energy has once again successfully installed its energy efficiency solution on a ship. The 5,000-tonne pusher-barge combination "Maranta", owned by the Dutch shipping company Maranta Shipping based in Alblasserdam uses an efficiency PACK to convert its waste heat from the exhaust gases and jacket cooling water into mechanical power.

Today, around half of the heat used in industry is lost. It is released into the air, even though it is very valuable. If industrial waste heat were used optimally, more than 23 terawatt hours of carbon-free, clean electricity could be generated per year in Germany alone. This in turn could supply 7.3 million, or 18 percent, of all German households.

Shipping companies around the world are currently under pressure to get their ships afloat under the new regulations of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Thousands of water boilers that have been used to heat heavy oil have become redundant - although steam could still be used efficiently.
