Green electricity from waste heat: Parquet manufacturer HARO relies on Orcan Energy

Munich and Stephanskirchen, Germany, 16.12.2024 - Hamberger Flooring, the company behind the HARO brand and market leader in the parquet sector in Germany, uses modular waste heat solutions from Orcan Energy. By converting excess heat into CO2-neutral electricity with Orcan's waste heat modules, further savings can be realized on the existing chiller in addition to electricity generation. The first waste heat module successfully entered  operation at the Stephanskirchen site in spring 2024. Due to the positive results, Hamberger Flooring has ordered another module in order to fully exploit the economic potential of the waste heat available at the site.

The heat required for the production of various floor coverings is fed into the production halls at the Stephanskirchen site via a hot water network, where it is used for drying, gluing and surface treatment, among other things. While some of the surplus heat can also be used for heating in winter, a large surplus capacity is common, particularly in summer. Orcan Energy's modules use this surplus heat to generate CO2-neutral electricity that can be used directly on site. In addition to the significant savings compared to purchasing from the grid, there are further savings due to lower utilization of the existing chiller.

The collaboration between Hamberger Flooring and Orcan Energy began in November 2023. Just a few months later, in April 2024, the first module was installed and entered operation. In view of its success, the order for a second module was placed in November 2024. It is scheduled to be delivered and installed in the first quarter of 2025.

Hans Peter Bauer, Head of Central Services at Hamberger Flooring, comments: “The installation of the first module was a complete success. Within less than six months, we were able to go from order to implementation of a system that makes our processes significantly more energy-efficient and therefore also more sustainable. The second module will help us to fully exploit our entire waste heat potential on site.”

Andreas Sichert, CEO of Orcan Energy, adds: “The collaboration with Hamberger Flooring is a great example of a successful local partnership and the benefits of our modular approach. This allows us to adapt flexibly to individual site conditions and specific waste heat potential. Now that the customer has been convinced of the benefits of our technology, the system has been easily expanded to include a second module.”
