Orcan Energy successfully commissions waste heat recovery system for Hagland Shipping

 

Munich, Germany / Haugesund, Norway, 06.05.2026 – Orcan Energy, a leading provider of Waste Heat Recovery (WHR) solutions, has successfully installed and commissioned a
100 kW efficiency PACK based on the Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) aboard a vessel operated by Norway’s Hagland Shipping. This marks the first of four planned installations for the shipping company, representing a significant milestone in scaling waste heat recovery across commercial maritime fleets.

The newly commissioned system captures waste heat from two distinct sources: the exhaust gas and the high-temperature jacket cooling water of the vessel’s ABC main engine. By efficiently utilizing both low- and high-temperature heat streams, Orcan Energy’s efficiency PACK converts otherwise lost thermal energy into clean, reliable electrical power directly onboard. This installation provides a tangible, immediate reduction in both fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, proving the reliability and integration capabilities of ORC technology in a rigorous, real-world marine operational environment.

With the first vessel successfully commissioned, the project now advances to the next phase. Orcan Energy will deploy modules across three upcoming sister vessels. This systematic rollout validates waste heat recovery as a standardized, replicable solution for the maritime industry.

The successful deployment of this project was made possible through close collaboration across the maritime supply chain. Further project partners included Shipyard Royal Bodewes, ensuring a seamless integration of the technology, and Gear Consult AS, Orcan Energy’s dedicated agent in Norway.
