Geothermal energy – CO₂-free electricity production with ORC technology
Geothermal energy is one of the most reliable and sustainable energy sources in the world. With a technical potential of over 200 GW, it plays a central role in the energy transition and in CO₂-free electricity generation. Deep geothermal energy is already being successfully used for green electricity production, particularly in regions with high geothermal activity, such as the USA, Indonesia, Taiwan and the Philippines.
However, even in these countries, a large part of the geothermal potential remains untapped. This is often due to fluctuating energy demand and technical limitations in the system. This is exactly where our innovative ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) solutions come in.
COMPLETE AND FLEXIBLE TURNKEY SOLUTIONS
Turnkey ORC systems for geothermal power
Our second-generation ORC systems are specially designed for geothermal applications and combine maximum efficiency, reliability and flexibility. The turnkey systems include both the ORC module and full integration into the geothermal cycle.
With a power range from 50 kW to several megawatts, our systems deliver base-load-capable, CO₂-free electricity – safely and with low maintenance. Thanks to their modular design, the plants can be flexibly expanded or adapted to changes in heat quantities, for example when geothermal energy is also used in heating networks.
Maximum efficiency and flexibility – electricity production from any heat source
Our modular ORC systems for geothermal energy not only utilise the full power of geothermal sources, but also excess heat during periods of low demand, e.g. at night or in summer.
While traditional ORC systems often reach their efficiency limits, our scalable modules can be added, removed or deployed at other locations depending on the amount of heat available.
The result: higher energy efficiency, optimised resource utilisation and maximum electricity production from geothermal energy – at all times.
The future of geothermal energy: EGS, AGS and unconventional applications
Our ORC technology is not only suitable for conventional geothermal plants, but also for Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS), Advanced Geothermal Systems (AGS) and energy recovery from oil and gas wells.
In EGS and AGS applications, our modules enable scalable, clean electricity production even from previously untapped geothermal sources. Our borehole generators have also proven to be an efficient solution for sustainable electricity generation from waste heat in the case of hot brines, which are a by-product of drilling.
In addition, our ORC systems contribute to increasing energy efficiency in large power plants by recovering low-temperature heat from brines. This reduces emissions, increases efficiency and creates economic and ecological benefits.

Technology
An ORC cycle operates inside the efficiency PACK: the evaporator transfers the waste heat to the efficiency PACK. This heats the pressurised working medium, which is then fed as superheated steam to the expansion machine. The steam drives the expansion engine and thus the generator, which produces electricity. The gaseous working medium is liquefied in the condenser, releasing residual heat into the ambient air. The now liquid working medium is brought to high pressure in the pump. This closes the cycle and starts it all over again.
