Oil & Gas
Improving energy efficiency in the oil and gas industry, particularly in refineries, is crucial, as these are among the most energy-intensive industrial facilities. By converting waste heat into electricity, various facilities in the oil and gas industry – such as refineries or compressor stations in gas transport networks – can significantly reduce their operating costs while also cutting greenhouse gas emissions. This strengthens both the economic efficiency and sustainability of these facilities in the long term.
In a market environment increasingly characterised by rising sustainability requirements and stricter regulatory requirements, energy efficiency measures are no longer an option but a strategic necessity.
Generating clean electricity from waste heat provides cost-effective energy, can replace expensive cooling of certain processes and reduces Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
Complete Turnkey Solutions
Orcan Energy supplies turnkey waste heat recovery (WHR) solutions for the oil and gas industry as well as the petrochemical industry, covering the entire scope of the project – from planning and design to implementation, commissioning and annual maintenance not only of the ORC modules, but of the entire required plant, including, for example, heat exchangers, piping and electrical integration. To this end, we work with renowned, qualified suppliers who have in-depth industry expertise. We also offer CAPEX-free financing options, so you can benefit from cash flow-positive turnkey solutions from day one.
Thanks to its modular design, our ORC solution can be easily adapted to changing conditions. High quality is ensured through the use of commercially available standard components, which are mainly sourced from renowned European suppliers. Each ORC module is assembled and tested in Germany before being delivered to the installation site. This proven approach minimises on-site labour and enables quick and easy installation as well as reliable and fully autonomous operation. No on-site personnel are required, and maintenance is limited to a single annual service by Orcan Energy.
Together, these features enable an exceptionally fast project cycle – from order placement to the first power output.
Case Study
Technology
An ORC cycle operates inside the efficiency PACK: the evaporator transfers the waste heat to the efficiency PACK. This heats the pressurised working medium, which is then fed as superheated steam to the expansion machine. The steam drives the expansion engine and thus the generator, which produces electricity. The gaseous working medium is liquefied in the condenser, releasing residual heat into the ambient air. The now liquid working medium is brought to high pressure in the pump. This closes the cycle and starts it all over again.
